Robert (Bob) Blevins’ first job was as a seventh-grade teacher at Occoquan Elementary school in Woodbridge during the 1950s before moving back to his hometown of Jenkins, Kentucky. In 1967, Blevins was called back to Prince William County to open a new elementary school, Belmont Elementary School, where he eventually became principal and served there until 1979. He moved to Coles Elementary School in 1980 and remained principal there until he retired in 1995. Blevins was a member of the Prince William Retired Teachers Association as well as serving in many other civic activities and his family maintained strong ties to the Lake Ridge and Woodbridge communities. He was the very first recipient of the Stuart M. Beville Award for Outstanding Ethical and Moral Standards in Principalship in the Public Schools of Virginia. Blevins passed away on May 23, 2020. He was 87 years old.
