Thank you for taking the time to check out my page! We are sailing through First Grade! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at email@example.com.
We are diving back into our seasons unit to talk about the changes from winter to spring. We will discuss how plants, animals, people, and weather are affected by the temperature getting warmer. Going outside and taking notice of students surroundings will help them grow in their understanding of how seasons change.
Students are working on figuring out the main idea, topic and details in a story. We are beginning with nonfiction and then working our way into fiction. Students can look at a set of pictures and try and discover what is in the pictures to figure out the topic and what how those details relate to figure out the main idea.
Writing: We are continuing our editing unit while bringing back our small moment writing. Students will be focusing on adding in details to their writing to make it more enjoyable and visual for their audience. We are focusing on one moment during the day and using our five senses to really capture a picture for the reader. Students can practice this at home by talking about things they hear, smell, taste, see, and feel.
We are continuing our unit where our main focuses will be place value with numbers up to 70 using tens and ones, being able to solve addition, subtraction, and story problems with numbers up to 15, and understanding what equality is with the equal sign (ex: 3+4=2+5).
In this math unit we are also working on the value of coins. Student will need to know how much each coin is worth and be able to add different coins up to at least 70 cents. They can easily practice this at home by pretending to own a store.
We are reviewing all of these things before we take the test at the end of the week. Practicing things at home will really help students when it comes time to take the test. Dreambox is a great tool to have students work on these subjects.
Students will be getting a packet that has assignments to do for a book they are currently reading. This is to help foster a love for reading as well as continue to develop students understanding of story elements. Students should be bringing a book home from the book cart that is on their level. If they currently do not have a book from the book cart they can also check out their benchmark account which they can log into from home using their Student ID number as username and password. If for some reason you are unable to login then feel free to use a book at home that is challenging but enjoyable at the same time.
If students do not complete their word study in class then they will be taking it home to complete that days work. It must be returned the next day for the student to be able to continue their work.
